Welcome to Appraisal Matters! Permit me to introduce myself.
Hundreds of commercial appraisal blogs on this site stem from the 21 years of collective experience of John Simpson, MAI, an Annapolis, Maryland appraiser who has:
- Written 4 books for the Appraisal Institute
- Written 11 technical articles for the Appraisal Journal
- Written over a dozen articles for various other real estate publications
Perhaps I’m showing my age, but in my own defense, Indiana Jones said it best… “It’s not the age, honey, it’s the mileage.” I’ve appraised in most of the states in the U.S. and dozens of cities in Europe, Africa, Asia and South America.
Whether it’s a $6 billion investment grade office portfolio in Downtown D.C. for tax appeal, a large portfolio of failed subdivisions in New Jersey during the Savings & Loan Crisis, marinas all across the U.S. or being the expert’s expert witness on the stand, I’ve been there and done that. Whether it’s appraising, consulting, lease vs. buy, lease vs. build, build-to-lease or some other type of strange financial analysis, I’ve walked the walk. For you, I talk the talk on this blog. You get the benefit of my experience and travels for the price of a hyperlink:)
So read on… and thank you for allowing me to do what I enjoy most – writing and analyzing commercial real estate.
Drop me a blog comment or an email sometime.
